Animal Concern Cumbria has grown from small beginnings in the South Lakes area of Cumbria nearly 30 years ago and so we will be celebrating our 30th anniversary year in 2012. Our four branches work hard to rescue and find good homes for unwanted or neglected pets of all sizes and descriptions. These are mainly dogs and cats but also include small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, ferrets, gerbils, hamsters etc. We have also found homes for poultry, fish and ponies in the past.
The only branch to have a kennelling facility which is non-commercial is the West Branch. This is a small facility at Northside, near Workington, where about 8 dogs can be cared for by a team of dedicated volunteers. The other branches have the use of various commercial kennels and catteries where we are grateful to receive preferential charity rates. We are also very grateful for all the volunteers who take animals into their own homes to foster, and sometimes train and rehabilitate, prior to their adoption.
All this does cost the Charity a lot of money and each branch arranges various fundraising events throughout the year. Details can be found on the individual Branch Websites. However the amounts raised in this way fall short of our expenditure and we rely heavily on gifts and legacies to be able to
continue our work.
If you are thinking of leaving something in your will to help animals please consider our Charity. Our Honorary Treasurer would be pleased to hear from you and can give full details of our financial status. The charity is run entirely by volunteers and the minimum is spent on administration.
