What to do if your dog is lost or stolen

A harrowing experience, know what to do and whom to contact to get information out there and make your animal "too hot to handle".

• Call your local police on 101 and request a CRN (crime reference number)
• BUT if witnessing the theft taking place call 999
• Contact your microchip company, ask them to put a stolen flag on your dog's record and check all the details are up to date
• Alert local dog warden, vets and rescues
• Register your dog as missing on the Dog Lost website : www.doglost.co.uk then e-mail your CRN to stolen@doglost.co.uk for your dog to be updated to stolen
• Print out the poster and put up around the local area
• Spread the word on social media, join your area DogLost Facebook Group, spread the word on Twitter and Instagram
• Add to nextdoor.com, LostBox, Gumtree, Pets4Homes, Pre-Loved, DragonDriving websites
